The 5th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo “MITE” will be held at Hall D, Cotai Expo of The Venetian Macao from 7th to 9th July, 2017. Working in conjunction with “The 13th Five-Year Plan for the Development of Tourism Industry” to strengthen tourism cooperation between the countries and other regions of “Belt and Road Initiative”, and join hands to develop tourism resources of the Maritime Silk Road, the Expo will draw on the results accomplished in the past four editions and further explore the exchange of content and fields in the industry, as well as to strengthen the business matching sector, creating one stop matching mechanism in order to promote exhibitors’ tourism resources and products in conjunction with Macao’s tourism resources in a creative manner.

This year, the Expo area will expand to 10,000 sqm with over 450 standard booth, covering six major tourism categories including dining, accommodation, transportation, entertainment, sightseeing and shopping, featuring travel agencies, hotels, scenic spots, world heritage, intangible cultural heritage, tourism transportation, tourism-extended services, tourism supermarket, tourism media, and tourism e-commerce, as well as and other tourism-related service categories. The Expo includes tour operators, tour operators, tourism related entities and enterprises from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan region, and overseas.

Tourism not only thrives as one of the pillar industries in Macao but also contributes as a key driver for diversification and sustainable development of the local economy. 2017 is an important year for Macao’s tourism industry. With the final version of the Macao Tourism Industry Development Master Plan to be ready this year, we envision a new tide of tourism development to surge and more comprehensively fuel the Macao Special Administrative Region Government’s work to step up Macao’s transformation into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.

Macao Government Tourism Office maintains collaborative relations with the travel trade to fully unleash synergistic effects and promote tourism diversification in Macao. In conjunction with our industry partners, we organize the Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo (“the Expo”) with our dedication to forge a major platform for members of the tourism industry and other related industries at home and abroad to exchange ideas, forge partnerships and share visitor markets. Moreover, we aspire to demonstrate Macao’s capability to organize professional travel fairs and our comprehensive strengths as an international travel destination through the Expo.

Last year marked the debut of Macao Government Tourism Office to organize the Expo. The past edition of the event won the support of exhibitors, industry buyers and travel enthusiasts as well as extensive media coverage from different cities, with expectations met and results we are satisfied with. The Expo will be held for the fifth year in 2017. It will once again highlight Macao’s role as a platform to gather members of the global tourism industry for idea exchange and business opportunities, market development and information sharing.

The Tourism Commodity Fair: Organized by China National Tourism Administration, tourism enterprises from Mainland China specializing in tourism handicrafts and products will participate to promote handicrafts with Chinese characteristics and related industry during the fair.

About Macao

Located at the mouth of the Pearl River Delta and adjacent to Guangdong Province, Macao is about 60 kilometers away from Hong Kong. In 2005, the Historic Centre of Macao was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, enabling Macao to further demonstrate its unique historical and cultural features to the world. Being an important link in the Maritime Silk Road in the 21st century, Macao is striving towards the goals of economic diversification and becoming a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, Macao has gradually become one of the most important tourism destinations as well as tourism industry gathering places in the Asia-Pacific region.

In 2016, Macao was ranked as “Best Holiday Destination” from “Best in Travel” poll by an online travel magazine “Smart Travel Asia”, and was selected as “The Best Family Destination” by the “Travel + Leisure” magazine. Macao also received the award for Best Destination – Leisure 2015 conferred by the International Council of Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA). In 2015, the globally-acclaimed travel guide book “Lonely Planet” has named Macao one of “Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2015 – Top 10 Regions”, making it the only finalist among China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Apart from the Ruins of St. Paul's, the Macau Tower, the A-Ma Temple and other famous tourist attractions, Macao displays its charms with a perfect blend of Chinese and Western culture in food, with restaurants over a hundred years, and the hidden traditional handicraft shops in the alleys.

Under the implementation of the "one country, two systems", Macao enjoys the advantages on location, market and capital, which are all beneficial to the development of tourism. In 2017, Macao Government Tourism Office will take the opportunity of “Belt and Road Inotoative “to promote multi-destination tourism products, while actively developing new tourism products and enhance promotion with other members of the “China Maritime Silk Road Tourism Promotion Alliance”, and thus creating a significant impact on the development of Macao.

Transportation

Visitors can travel to Macao by land, sea and air. You may take a direct or connecting flight to Macau International Airport or transfer to other city routes; in addition, a helicopter service flies directly from Hong Kong and Shenzhen to Macao. Many visitors travel to Macao by sea via Shun Tak Centre (Sheung Wan, Hong Kong), Hong Kong International Airport, China (HK) Ferry Terminal (Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong), Tuen Mun Ferry Terminal (New Territories, Hong Kong), Shekou (Shenzhen), and Fu Yong Ferry Terminal (ShenzhenAirport). Land crossings from Mainland China are made through the Border Gate on Macao Peninsula and the Lotus Bridge in Cotai.

By Air

Transportation Service to and from Macau International Airport
All major hotels provide a pick-up service which can be booked in advance or arranged upon arrival.

Taxis are conveniently available from the taxi rank outside the airport. A surcharge of MOP5.00 is applicable, with each item of luggage carried in the boot charged at MOP3.00.

A number of buses serving the airport – marked AP1, MT1, MT2, N2 & 26 - criss-cross the city and stop at major hotels.

Macau International Airport is strategically located in Taipa near various ports and convenient transportation routes. Depending on traffic flow, it takes about 15 minutes to travel by car from the airport to the Macau Ferry Terminal on the Peninsula, 5 minutes to the nearby Taipa Temporary Ferry Terminal, 20 minutes to the Border Gate, 10 minutes to the Lotus Bridge COTAI Frontier Post, 20 minutes to the central district on Macao Peninsula, and 10 minutes to Taipa Village. The airport is well served by air-conditioned taxis, public buses and hotel shuttle buses.

2) Helicopter Service to and from Macau Ferry Terminal

The helicopter service from Hong Kong and Shenzhen provides a convenient, upscale option for visitors wishing to quickly reach Macao.

Hong Kong → Macao

Sky Shuttle Helicopters Limited (Sky Shuttle) operates helicopters between the rooftop helipads of Shun Tak Centre (Sheung Wan, Hong Kong) and Macau Ferry Terminal (Macao Peninsula). Each flight takes approximately 16 minutes.

Shenzhen → Macao

A helicopter service between Shenzhen Bao An International Airport, PRC and the rooftop helipad of Macau Ferry Terminal (Macao Peninsula) is also available. The journey takes about 15 minutes during the day and approximately 25 minutes at night.

An airport ferry service is available for passengers travelling to Macao via Hong Kong International Airport. Passengers can arrive in or depart from Macao via Hong Kong International Airport as a transit stop without having to pass through Hong Kong Customs and Immigration formalities and also without the inconvenience of carrying their luggage to the Ferry Terminal. The ferry trip from Hong Kong International Airport to Macao takes approximately 45 minutes.

The following public transportation options from Hong Kong International Airport to Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal (Shun Tak Centre, Hong Kong) are available:

Option 1) - Airport Express (train)
First, take the Airport Express to Hong Kong Station in Central (Operating Hours: 5:54am - 00:48am daily) then take a taxi to Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal (Shun Tak Centre, Hong Kong).

Option 2) - Public bus route A11
Travellers should get off at the ‘Macau Ferry, Connaught Road Central’ bus stop (Operating Hours: 6:10am - 00:30am).

Option 3) - Taxi
Taxis from Hong Kong International Airport take about 30 minutes to reach Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal (Shun Tak Centre, Hong Kong), subject to the prevailing traffic situation.

By Sea

1) Hong Kong → Macao

Hong Kong has three major terminals that service Macao-bound routes: Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal in Shun Tak Centre located on Hong Kong Island, the China (HK) Ferry Terminal located in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon and Tuen Mun Ferry Terminal in New Territories. Two companies operate the services: TurboJET and The Cotai Strip CotaiJet™, both of which operate Jetfoils and TriCats.

1.1) Hong Kong Island → Macao

The Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal in Shun Tak Centre is most frequently used by passengers. It is located above the Sheung Wan MTR station (Mass Transit Railway) next to a terminus for buses and minibuses from many parts of Hong Kong, including the bus from the airport. The Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal, the helipad, reservation offices of Macao hotels and travel agents as well as the Macao Government Tourism Office Tourist Information are all located in Shun Tak Centre.

TurboJET provides a high-speed service 24 hours a day. Travel time is approximately 1 hour from Hong Kong (Hong Kong - Macau Ferry Terminal) to Macao (Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal or Taipa Temporary Ferry Terminal).

The China (HK) Ferry Terminal is located in HarbourCity in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, and offers TriCat roundtrip sailings to and from Macao. Its booking offices sell tickets for current and advance sailings.

This route offers roundtrip sailings to and from Kowloon (China (HK) Ferry Terminal) and Macao (Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal). The journey takes about 60-75 minutes.

Passengers are advised to arrive in the terminal at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time in order to complete immigration formalities. Seats are allocated following check-in and immigration.

The Yuet Tung Shipping Co. Ltd. offers a ferry service between Macao (Taipa Temporary Ferry Terminal) and Shenzhen (Shekou and ShenzhenAirport – Fu Yong Ferry Terminal). The trip takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Passports and Visas

All visitors must hold a passport or a valid travel document for travel to Macao.

All visitors are required to have a visa except nationals of countries which are exempted from a visa or entry permit. For more information on “Visa” and “Entry Permit” Exemption, please visit the website of the Macao Immigration Services of Public Security Police Force.

A Macao visa can be obtained through the Embassies/Consulates of the PRC and should be used within its validity. Visitors may also apply for an entry permit or visa upon arrival at the immigration checkpoint. There are three types of entry permit (i.e. Visa-upon-arrival) :
Individual - MOP$100 (MOP$50 for children under the age of 12)

Family Passport - MOP$200
